A project called Annapurna Akshayapatra Yojana was launched by H.E. Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh on 02.01.2017 Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh under banner of Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh in association with Chandigarh Administration to provide affordable, hygienic and nutritious diet to the labourers, Industrial workers and all the needy. Under this project, a Kitchen Shed was erected at Karuna Sadan Building, Sector 11-B, Chandigarh with total initial cost of the project of Rs.70 Lac. The required infrastructure has been arranged through different philanthropists. Initially the Annapurna Akshayapatra Kitchen was set up at Karuna Sadan Building, Sector 11, Chandigarh. The daily distribution of food packets have been carried out at 10 different prescribed locations in Chandigarh. At present, around 4000 food packets per day are being prepared and further distributed from these allocated locations. The daily distribution is done from 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. (Lunch) and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Dinner) with cost of food packet of Rs.10/- each containing 6 chapattis, sabzi and achaar. It is worth mentioning here that a sum of Rs.13,92,193/- have been incurred as capital expenditure for setting up of kitchen shed of Annapurna Akshayapatra Yojana at Red Cross Office, Karuna Sadan Building, Sector 11-B, Chandigarh. Further for smooth running of the Annapurna Akshayapatra Yojana, 5 Tata Ace Vehicles have been donated by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited under CSR. A sum of Rs.1,60,000/- was incurred on fabrication of these 5 Tata Ace Vehicles which are being used for distribution of Food Packets in different allocated areas in Chandigarh. Further, 4 Tata Ace Vehicles costing Rs.16,86,540/- have been donated under MPLAD Scheme by Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble MP, Chandigarh for smooth running of Annapurna Akshayapatra Yojana. A sum of Rs.1,96,172/- was incurred on fabrication, insurance and registration of these 4 Tata Ace Vehicles which are being used for distribution of Food Packets in different allocated areas in Chandigarh. For the effective implementation of Annapurna Akshayapatra Yojana, the decision was taken to shift Annapurna Kitchen from Karuna Sadan, Sector 11 to Red Cross Sarai, PGIMER from June,2018.
