The Infosys Foundation-Red Cross Sarai was inaugurated on 30th January,2018 by Sh. Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister for Home Affairs, Govt. of India in the presence of Hon'ble MP Smt. Kirron Kher, Smt. Sudha Murty, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration. As we all know that the PGIMER, Chandigarh is a world renowned medical institute, where not only patients from India but outside India come for medical treatment. Such is the rush of patients that present Dharamshalas and Sarais cannot cater to the increasing demands. It is a common site in the premises of PGIMER that attendants of the patients have to rest in an open space in rough weather conditions. The IRCS, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh came forward with a very noble cause of running a Sarai Building in the PGI Campus. The land for the Sarai has been provided by the PGI to IRCS, Chandigarh and construction cost of around Rs.22 Crore was borne by the Infosys Foundation under Corporate Social Responsibility. The total area of the site of Sarai Building is 40000 square feet. The 300 bedded building has been designed to cater to the needs of the patients and the attendants visiting PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Red Cross Sarai is going a long in solving the demands of patients and attendants visiting PGIMER for medical treatment. The sarai building is consisting of waiting lounge, cloak room, kitchen, dining, lifts etc. including equipped with ultra modern facilities like hvac, electrical and backup generators. In order to run Red Cross Sarai smoothly, the IRCS has engaged required manpower i.e. Manager, Data Entry Operator, Safai Karamchari, Electrician, Plumber and Watchman through outsourced agency.

In order to keep security measures at Red Cross Sarai, the Gate Entry through Swipe Card has been made mandatory to all visitors. At the time of booking the visitor is issued with a Card which is required to be swiped before entering at Red Cross Sarai premises. It has made mandatory to every visitor staying at Red Cross Sarai to swipe card for every movement i.e. entry as well as exit point. The booking of rooms is available Online as well as at Booking Counter in Red Cross Sarai, PGIMER. The entire funding for installation of necessary software including required infrastructure has been arranged through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Scheme.
