The first unit of Kalam Express Project was launched on 23.06.2016 by H.E. Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh. In view of positive response from general public towards this noble cause of IRCS, the second unit of Kalam Express was also started on 13.07.2017 by H.E. Governor of Punjab & Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh. An unique project called “Kalam Express Project” was introduced which is a Home Based Educational-cum-Rehabilitation Project to provide health and education service to the Child with multiple disabilities and several disabilities at their door step. The new vehicle costing Rs.16.81 Lakh (including fabrication) was purchased for the first Kalam Express Vehicle for which Rs.24.69 Lakh was received from State Bank of India under Corporate Social Responsibility. The second Kalam Express vehicle (Force Traveller) was purchased costing Rs.9,73,745/- for which donation was received under MPLAD Scheme from Smt. Kirron Kher, Hon’ble MP, Chandigarh. A sum of Rs.1,41,474/- was incurred on fabrication, insurance, registration etc. in respect of this second unit of Kalam Express Vehicle. The both mobile vans are equipped with audio visual aids and therapy equipments needed for special children. The Physiotherapist and Special Educator are appointed for working with children with special needs. This mobile unit are covering peripheral, slum, rural and rehabilitation colonies i.e. Sector 26 Bapudham Colony, Mauli Jagran, Burail, Maloya, Palsora, Dhanas, Dadumajra, Kishangarh, Indira Colony, Kajheri, Colony No. 4, Hallomajra and other areas in UT Chandigarh where there is availability of such children. As on date total 349 differently abled children have been enrolled for education under this project.
